Independent Studies

Independent Studies are available for those who prefer individualized study, supported by a member of the Institute Teaching Team. Students are required to meet at least six times over a six-month period with the Teaching Team member for dialogue and support. Having a spirit of willingness and readiness to work independently is necessary for successful completion of these studies. Call (703) 706-5333 to register for any independent study program.

BORN TO SERVE - The Evolution of the Soul Through Service

Susan Trout’s Born to Serve: The Evolution of the Soul Through Service is this independent study’s required text.  Born to Serve provides a roadmap to guide individuals and organizations in deepening their consciousness of the relationship between their motives for serving and the quality of their service.

Students will work with such Born to Serve concepts as the laws of service; individual and collective evolutionary shifts of consciousness necessary to change the societal view of service for the twenty-first century; dimensions of service defined by the world’s religions; prevalent shadow motivations for service; gifts and challenges of the seven evolutionary stages of service; and methods of working with the shadow of service to unveil the soul.

This independent study is appropriate for those wishing to gain and practice an understanding of service from a soul perspective. Working with shadow exercises on one’s own is required for successful completion of this independent study.

Piero Ferrucci’s, What We May Be:  Techniques for Psychological and Spiritual Growth Through Psychosynthesis is this independent study’s required text.  What We May Be is an illuminating and practical guide for enhancing the process of psychological and spiritual growth.  Based on and advancing the work of Roberto Assagioli, this book is a popular introduction to psychosynthesis, which is both a psychology of self-actualization and a philosophy in the art of living.

Students will work with such psychosynthesis concepts and tools as:  focusing of attention, structure of the human psyche, role of subpersonalities in integrating the psyche, helpful use of aggressive energy, role of beauty in personal development, and value of dis-identification and self-identification for unfoldment of a healthy human psyche.

This independent study is appropriate for those individuals who wish to gain a greater understanding of the nature of their conscious and unconscious mind and to learn supportive tools for emotional healing and psycho-spiritual health and wellbeing. Having a willingness to do book exercises on one’s own is necessary for successful completion of this independent study.
