Date and Time: September 11; 3pm
Suggested Donation: $20
Location: The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, VA 22314

Guest Artist: Pianist Robert Wyatt has performed throughout the US and internationally. Featured on NPR and PBS, he has also performed at the Kennedy Center, the Phillips Collection, and the Library of Congress.  A “Smithsonian Scholar,” Mr. Wyatt has been a lecturer/recitalist for the Smithsonian Institution for twenty years and is known as one of the nation’s foremost Gershwin scholars.  He is currently the Director of Music at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Steinway artist Robert Wyatt has prepared a musical journey that takes us from the achingly beautiful works of Schumann and Schubert to the rousing joie de vivre of the indomitable American spirit in works by Scott Joplin and George Gershwin.  Selections include Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Three Impromptus by Franz Schubert, Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.  On September 11, 2001, the skies were desecrated by desperate men.  Ten years after that fateful day, the same skies have become spacious again.
