2012 And Beyond: An Institute Special Series

Is 2012 the beginning of a global shift in consciousness? The advent of the Aquarian Era? The end of the world? In this series, we will unpack the various hypotheses swirling around the year 2012, exploring what aspects of these hypotheses we can test for ourselves and how we can stay centered and clear-headed through the hype and glut of information that is only likely to increase as we near the year 2012 itself. Most importantly, the series will address the question of how we can prepare ourselves to sustain a state of being that will allow us to serve from the heart and support our world collective throughout this turbulent transition, which is likely to extend significantly beyond 2012.

The Shift of the Ages: 2012 and the Fifth Sun
Guest Speaker: Joan Lartin-Drake, PhD, RN. Dr. Larkin is a psychotherapist in Pennsylvania, specializing in family therapy, trauma, and neurofeedback training. She has also studied non-hierarchical strategic planning at the Wharton School and has used this approach to help companies, non-profits, and communities create a viable future.

The Mayan Elders speak of the current time as the “Fourth Sun,” a time of tumult, violence, destruction of the earth, and also awakening to a higher consciousness – the transition to the Fifth Sun.

Joan Lartin-Drake studied the Mayan Calendar in Guatemala with Mayan Elders, including Don Alejandro Cirilo Perez Oxlaj, primary keeper of the teachings, visions, and prophecies of the Mayan people, Day Keeper of the Mayan Calendar, and a 13th generation Quiche Mayan High Priest. Using verbatim reports and video clips, Dr. Lartin-Drake presents this seminar in the spirit of directly reporting what she has learned from the Elders rather than as her interpretation of their message.

While some aspects of what the Mayan Elders are saying about the transition to the Fifth Sun are disturbing, they have shared numerous concrete suggestions about how to prepare and deal with this transition, which they say has already begun.

Dr. Lartin-Drake will also present a context for understanding what these Elders have recently chosen to communicate to the rest of the world, including a discussion of the Gregorian and Mayan calendar systems. In keeping with suggestions by the elders to conduct meaningful ceremonies as a way of preparing for this transition, Dr. Lartin-Drake will lead a simple Mayan Fire Ceremony at the end of the seminar, to draw participants together in gratitude and prayer for our species and the planet.
